Company Update:
The 10 year executive Chairman of Telefonica Alvarez Pallete will leave the company and be replaced by the current executive Chairman of Indra. The move was backed by both the Spanish government and STC, the Saudi Telecom group.
This is presumably good news for Telefonica shareholders as it sends a clear signal that the main shareholders want things to change.
Telefonica valuation remains cheap with PE25 at 7.5x and a dividend yield of 8.3%.
Expert Opinion:
This is good news indeed for Telefonica (probably not for Indra). The whole telecom sector is out of favor but with a dividend yield of 8% I believe downside is extremely limited and that Telefonica offers an attractive risk reward profile.
